16th Annual C.A.T. Walk & Fun Run raises $50,000
The 16th annual C.A.T. Walk & Fun Run attracted over 800 walkers and runners on the 4th of July in downtown Hillsboro. The Tuality Healthcare Foundation organized event is a local Independence Day tradition and serves as a prelude to the annual Hillsboro Rotary Club 4th of July parade.
The 2016 event raised approximately $50,000 for cancer programs and services, pushing the amount the event has raised since its inception to $881,000. Eric Valdes, 45, of Hillsboro, finished the 5K with the fastest men’s time of 18 minutes, 4 seconds and was also the fastest men’s Masters Division finisher. Meggie Karp, 16, of Hillsboro, had the fastest women’s time at 19 minutes, 21 seconds. Anissa Campista, 46, of North Plains, was the fastest women’s Master Division finisher with a time of 26 minutes, 13 seconds.
In addition to the timed 5K walk and fun run, the annual event also included a Kids’ Dash and a Kids’ Zone featuring an inflatable slide and carnival games. An adjoining health fair highlighted many of the quality services provided at Tuality Healthcare.
Tuality Healthcare Foundation Director Cece Clitheroe thanked everyone for attending and participating. “We are proud to support the leading-edge cancer treatment services Tuality Healthcare provides to our community,” she said. “And we are so grateful to all of the participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event possible and helped us raise funds to provide education programs, medical equipment, transportation assistance, and patient comfort necessities for the cancer patients we are honored to care for.”
Clitheroe also had praise for the event’s Sprinter Sponsors, Henningsen Cold Storage, the Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center, Metro West Ambulance, and Frontier Communications, as well as other sponsors Baker Rock Resources, Medline Industries, Inc., Milliman, Inc., Pacific University, the Hillsboro Hops, Genentech, Inc., INLINE Commercial Construction, Inc., and Pamplin Media.
